I’ve been based in the Peak District since 2007 and have worked for a number of different activity providers in the area as a freelance staff member as well as full time for one of the major activity centres. Previously I have been based on the North York Moors and was a Senior Instructor at a small activity centre there. Over the last 7 years I have gained experience in running and training other instructors to run many types of activity sessions. I’ve worked with all types of client groups; youth groups, mixed background, skills courses, management, mixed ability & hen/stag groups as well as one to one coaching with other instructors.

As you can see from my picture I am a caver and I hold the Cave Instructor Certificate, the top qualification for cavers in the U.K.
I am actively involved in Derbyshire caving and cave conservation. I’m currently chairman of the Darkside Caving & Mining Club and a member of P.I.C.A. (Peak Instructed Caving Affiliation).

My other loves include bushcraft and photography but I can honestly say that there is not a single activity I do not enjoy instructing and taking part in myself.

My first experiences of the outdoors were though school trips and scouting. After leaving school I studied Outdoor Leisure at Biction College in Devon, were I gained great experiences that gave me a good footing in the industry. I have now worked as a instructor for the last 13 years, at number of centres and as freelance instructor in both the UK and abroad. In that time I have worked with wide range of groups and still get a buzz when you help with their personal growth. When I'm not working I enjoy playing in the Peak or a bit further a field!"

Hi there, I am Ben, an enthusiastic and friendly outdoor practioner. The outdoors in its many guises has been my life since I was small and being in a position to pass on some of my knowledge and help others to experience the benefits outdoor activities can have is a great position to be in.

I have worked with a huge variety of groups, from corporate team building to schools, youth groups and families. Based in the Peak District now I have worked also in the Lake District, Shropshire and Yorkshire with many happy memories of personal trips elsewhere in the UK and beyond.

Personally I like to spend my time climbing, caving, paddling, bushcraft, cycling, taking photos and hearing peoples stories.

I was first introduced to the outdoors at school and have been hooked ever since, I was a member of Glossop mountain rescue team for 8 years, before becoming an outdoor instructor in 1996.
I have worked in most areas of the UK but predominantly in the Mendip hills, Yorkshire dales and moors and the peak district, I am currently a senior instructor and technical advisor for caving at a busy centre in the peak district and have been there for over 12 years. I see the outdoors as a class room and enjoy teaching, educating and inspiring people of all levels of ability and expertise in the outdoors, may it be taster sessions with children or instructor training courses.
I do also enjoy playing in the outdoors as well as working, I especially enjoy sea kayaking and canoeing with my wife, and caving with friends in our own time.
